What does it feel like to ‘be in the flow’? The wind in your hair and the sun on your skin? Just knowing that it’s going to work out? Getting out of your own way so that life can happen? We usually think about flow as a favorable circumstance that some of us actively seek out. What about other kinds of flow: rip currents, whirlpools, and our obsessive desires or habits that lead to self-destructive behavior? This week does not help reinforce our boundaries, so we will have to be conscious of the conditions we are in and the permission we give. It will feel easier to slip into ways of being that take us out of the present and prevent the past and future from giving us wisdom or hope. If we come prepared, this could be a portal into understanding those harmful behaviors and doing the difficult work of unlearning them. Paraphrased from Dr. Gabor Maté: addiction separates us, while passion connects us. There is support and structure available this week if we listen for it and seek it out.
This week is introduced by some more feelings-based processes. The reach and scope of our thoughts are breaking new ground. Consider the function of translating ideas into expression and how it can be hard to find the right word to describe something. Or how visual art, music, or touch convey things that take many, many words to represent but only simulate our experience. The following two and a half weeks will have our critical thinking and memorization skills embracing a new translator. Pay attention to non-verbal communication. It will be easier to become overloaded and more challenging to understand why. Entitlement issues are also possible.
Between the bookends of the week, we have some uncovering to do. Spend a little extra time examining your role in the challenges that are up this week. What have we done to mitigate the situation, and in what ways have we aggravated it? The way we respond to something might feel right, but is it helping us or anyone? Included in the middle of this week, we are asked to ask for help. Even if what we are working at can only be accomplished individually, reaching out to others can give us support to do our work. We are going deep at the moment, so avoid things that bring out obsessive or addictive qualities. Stalking a crush online might feel like fun, but what is the value of that time spent? Can we focus on exchanging with one another and not isolation?
Hopefully, we can take the gentle advice of asking for help with us into the next four weeks, as we are becoming energized by the change of seasons. We are going to feel more independent and determined starting this weekend. Expect a surge of positive energy, but don’t be surprised when it is challenging to choose what to do with it. We are likely going to be less decisive than usual for a bit. Leaning into that can be fruitful--if we have the patience to see what lies down the winding path. Do initiate things, but don’t expect to finish everything that springs forth. The end of the week is not as restful as the last few have been, so think big and expect surprises!
