18-24 january ◆ computer blues

After the upset, anger, and fervor of last week, this week sees a culmination of those events. I’m sorry to report that we are still in the tough times of breaking things down to build them anew. The feelings of instability for the last two weeks have shaken us up, but if you can remain grounded and stay flexible, it is possible to catch some of the pieces as they fall back down into a new configuration. You have likely seen the parts of your life that are rearranging in motion for some time now. If at all possible, take an outsider’s perspective into those matters. Doing so may calm some nerves and hopefully give you new information about how to proceed. The number of occurring changes can be overwhelming, so take care when wading out into the rising tide and try to keep your wits about you. What are the restorative practices you can call on now to soothe your frayed ends? Physical exercise, breathing techniques, self-massage, baths, or earthy meals may be useful ways to bring your focus back to your body and the present moment. There is some concern about over-doing strenuous activities or being prone to accidents now. If you have to stay in bed one day this week, so be it. The frenetic quality of this week may call for a slower pace and more conscious or deliberate efforts to carry on through it. This week wraps up with a particularly somber note. It could be a solid foundation to layout new patterns on or a burdensome check-in with reality that requires a new way of identifying yourself--maybe something in between. If you feel very low at this time, please know that it is temporary and will pass. Using technology to connect, instead of isolate, is a key for this moment.
This week starts with some energizing, even uneasy, feelings carrying over from last week. It may feel like you need to take action, but there may not be anything you can do but wait until the cards are laid out. Taking it a bit slower, but being prepared to act, is a balancing act to keep for the moment. Get some outside opinions about the situations that are in the foreground now. These other viewpoints will help you triangulate the answers, or maybe the questions, you are looking for.
Mid-week is the main event. The volatility that has been in the air for the last few weeks culminates on Wednesday. Take care around vigorous activities, as pushing past your limits might lead to a blowout. Electricity is another possible site for unpredictable outcomes. Vehicles or tempers may have flare-ups that come out of nowhere. Those of us who are not comfortable with living on the edge, so most of us, will feel the tension pulling but not see where it is going to erupt unless we are looking very closely. Self-care is not inherently selfish, but if it is harmful to yourself or anyone else, can it be called “care”?
The end of the week carries a paradox: the emboldened drive to do your will in the world and the harsh reality that you have to give up something or play by stringent rules to accomplish what you set out to do. You may feel prone to express your beliefs with unusual zeal, but this might be more useful as optimistic planning than passionate acting. If you can give yourself time to reset on Sunday, please do, as integrating the events of this week is an important task.
